Humira Injection #1

I started my Humira injections today.

There was a big mess with the pharmacy when my dad brought the prescription in. Somewhere along the way forms were not handed to the right people so they knew nothing about my coverage or anything.

I needed the drug for my training session today though so instead of giving me the pen like I was supposed to train on, they gave me the four syringes they had in stock, each with 40 mg (adding up to 160 mg-my first dose).

I went to the office and learned to give myself a legit syringe needle.

I am writing this for themysteryvanishing in particular. I read your Crohn’s update and how you are going to have to learn to use a syringe for B12 injections. And I really just want to say, don’t worry, don’t stress about it, you’re going to do great!

I was so nervous when they popped the top off, flicked it and then pushed the air bubble out. I pinched some skin and held it lingering over the site for what felt like an eternity. I made to stick it in but chickened out a couple times. I took a deep breath in and just did it. It doesn’t hurt. The only pain I felt was when I started pressing the substance into my skin and the pain doesn’t stay for very long. I don’t know if your B12 injections will work the same but I am basically trying to say, if I can do it, you can totally do it! After that first one, I prepped the three other ones and did them one after the other, no problem.

I will get the pen in two weeks and always use it from now on. The hardest thing I found with giving myself a needle was feeling like I was self-mutilating, which I have never done nor been temped to do. Naturally it felt weird, just wrong. But it’s good for me, it’s going to help me, I really believe in this drug.

We’re so tough. All of us.
